Winkler Park on a hot day

You know how it is. Those locations you drive past between Point A and Point B that look enticing, and you tell yourself, β€œOne day, I must pull in and explore that location.” Well I finally pulled in to exlore a little conservation park between the towns of Riverton and Saddlework in the mid north of South Australia. Winkler Park has shelter, water, toilets and walking trails. An old cottage with cottage garden nestles in amidst the conservation area where native plants and towering gum trees dominate. The Winklers came from Germany in the 1850s, and when the last of the family members died, the cottage was donated to the state - locals petitioned for it to be conserved as a parkland for the community to enjoy.
